Mock Tests and Assessments
We can offer an assessment to give you an honest and true appraisal of your driving skills and tell you truthfully how many lessons in our opinion you will require to pass your test. You will be given a copy of the DL25 (the examiners marking sheet outlining any areas requiring attention. We will conduct the assessment over approximately 40 minutes)”
At Driving Stars Derby Driving School we pride ourselves in our ability to assist in passing the theory test. We will advise you of the best books, DVDs, CD ROMs and various other learning aides that are available for both aspects of the theory test, questions and hazard perception.

We will conduct a mock test as carried out by DSA examiner using an actual route or similar one. All terms and phraseology will be exactly the same as conducted on a real test. At the end of the mock test you will be given a driving test report (DL25) and be informed whether you have passed or failed the mock test. To pass a UK Driving test you must not commit any more than 15 minor faults or an accumulation of these in the same category. No serious or no dangerous faults are permitted. A minor fault being a minor deviation or less serious fault. A serious fault something being potentially dangerous or a dangerous fault, or something causing actual danger. Mock tests can be a useful way of finding out what a candidate is like under tests conditions and we would recommend anyone doing this before taking their actual driving test.
As from October 4th 2010, the DSA introduced the independent driving feature into the practical driving test.
Independent Driving Explained
Your practical driving test will include approximately 10 minutes of independent driving.
During your test you’ll have to drive independently by either following:
- traffic signs
- a series of directions
- a combination of both
To help you understand where you are going when following verbal directions, the examiner will show you a diagram.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t remember every direction, or if you go the wrong way – that can happen to the most experienced drivers.
Independent driving is not a test of your orientation and navigation skills. Driving independently means making your own decisions – this includes deciding when it’s safe and appropriate to ask for confirmation about where you’re going.
